Organic September

Certified Organic by the Soil Association

At Earthfare, organic isn’t just a label, it is lifestyle and a commitment to looking after nature, but there’s no better time to celebrate than Organic September, a nationwide campaign that highlights the value of organic food, farming, and products. It’s a moment to reflect on the choices we make, the food we eat, and how it all connects back to our health and the health of the planet.

Every company or indivual in the whole supply chain has to be certified by an Organic Association to ensure they are following practises that keep organic, organic the whole way to you. We are so proud to be part of the Soil Association.

Who is the Soil Association?

The Soil Association is the UK’s leading food and farming charity and organic certification body. Since 1946, they’ve worked to transform the way we eat, farm, and care for our natural world. Their certification is one of the most trusted in the industry — and it’s not easy to get.

Their work is rooted in four key principles:

Health – for soil, people, animals, and ecosystems

Ecology – working with nature, not against it

Fairness – for farmers, workers, and future generations

Care – making responsible decisions today for tomorrow

What We Did to Become Certified

Becoming Soil Association certified meant holding ourselves, and our suppliers to incredibly high standards. This included:

  • Full traceability of every organic product…
  • Working with certified suppliers to get produce we know is right…
  • Maintaining strict separation between organic and non-organic items…
  • Undergoing regular audits and inspections
  • Meeting environmental and animal welfare benchmarks…

It’s a rigorous process, but one we’re incredibly proud of. It reflects our values and our long-standing commitment to quality, sustainability, and transparency.

Why Organic?

Organic often is more expensive. But here’s why we still recommend it:

  • You’re investing in your health and your taste buds. With fewer pesticides, no artificial additives, and nutrient-rich soil, organic food simply means better quality. And you really can taste the difference when you compare organic with non-organic side by side. Damaged soils from conventional farming often strip out flavour, while organic produce blooms with it.
  • You’re supporting wildlife and biodiversity: Organic farming helps protect pollinators, improves soil health, and promotes better animal welfare.
  • You’re choosing fewer chemicals and more care: Organic farming is about quality over quantity — it’s slower, more sustainable, and done with intention.

Food has become cheaper over time in the UK, but that comes at a cost: less nutritious food, environmental harm, and broken supply chains. In fact, the percentage of household income spent on food has fallen dramatically over the decades, but we believe it’s worth asking:

at what cost?

Organic food is not just about eating, it’s about choosing a better system for everyone involved, from seed to shelf.
