Yeast extract is one of the great British condiments — intensely savoury, rich in naturally occurring B vitamins (including B1, B2, B3 and folate) and a pure expression of umami that makes almost everything it touches taste more deeply flavoured.
Essential Trading's version is two ingredients: yeast extract and sea salt. Nothing more. Vegan by nature and a genuinely useful kitchen ingredient beyond just spreading on toast — a small teaspoon dissolves into stocks, stews, gravies and pasta sauces to add depth and savouriness that's hard to achieve any other way.

How to use: Spread on toast, crumpets or rice cakes. Dissolve a small amount into boiling water for a quick savoury drink. Add a teaspoon to stocks, gravies, stews and pasta sauces as a depth-building ingredient.
