Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) is one of the richest plant sources of omega-7 fatty acids — specifically palmitoleic acid, a monounsaturated fat that plays a distinctive role in mucosal membrane health. Natures Aid deliver sea buckthorn oil in vegan softgel capsules using a plant-based shell (corn starch and carrageenan) rather than the conventional gelatine used in most fish oil capsules.
Omega-7 from sea buckthorn is commonly used to support the health of mucous membranes throughout the body — including the vaginal mucosa (particularly relevant during and after menopause, when dryness is common), the ocular surface (dry eye), and the digestive tract lining. It's an area of growing clinical interest with emerging research support.
The sea buckthorn berry also provides naturally occurring carotenoids, vitamins C and E, and omega-3, -6 and -9 alongside the omega-7 — making the whole berry oil more nutritionally comprehensive than isolated palmitoleic acid supplements.
