Vecon has been a fixture in UK natural food shops since the 1970s — one of the first vegetable stock pastes available in the health food market, and still widely trusted for its deep, savoury character. Hydrolysed soya and maize protein forms the umami base; 10% vegetable powder (celery, onion, parsley, spinach, garlic) adds flavour complexity; yeast extract enriches the savouriness.
Vecon dissolves readily in hot water to make a rich vegetable stock, or can be used directly as a flavour paste in sauces, stews and soups without dilution.
Vegan. Contains soya and celery.
How to use: 1 teaspoon dissolved in 500ml boiling water for stock. Use undiluted to add depth to sauces, gravies, soups and stews. A small amount goes a long way.
