Weleda's Ratanhia toothpaste is based on Krameria triandra root extract (ratanhia) — a South American plant with a long tradition in European herbalism as a natural astringent for gum health. Combined with calcium carbonate as the mild abrasive cleaning agent and glycerin for texture, this produces a toothpaste formulated specifically for those with sensitive, receding or inflamed gums.
Ratanhia root is naturally rich in tannins and catechins (similar compounds to those in green tea) that provide a mild astringent, gum-toning action. The formula is free from SLS, fluoride, synthetic preservatives and artificial flavours.
