Weleda are a Swiss biodynamic and natural health company founded in 1921, whose approach to personal care is rooted in the Anthroposophical philosophy of working with nature rather than against it. Their salt toothpaste uses sodium bicarbonate as the key cleaning agent alongside fine silica, glycerin and peppermint oil — a formula without SLS (sodium lauryl sulphate), artificial flavours, preservatives or synthetic foaming agents.
Sodium bicarbonate is a traditional and effective tooth-cleaning agent — mildly abrasive, naturally alkaline and effective at neutralising the acids produced by oral bacteria. The peppermint oil gives a clean, fresh taste; the blackthorn bud extract (Prunus spinosa) provides traditional support for gum health.
No SLS. No synthetic preservatives. Natural formulation.
How to use: Use as a conventional toothpaste. The texture is slightly different from gel or cream toothpastes — slightly saltier and more paste-like. Some users find the flavour requires adjustment; most find it preferable to heavily flavoured conventional toothpastes after a brief settling-in period.
