Yutaka are a UK-based Japanese food brand who have been making authentic Japanese and Asian ingredients accessible in British supermarkets and health food shops since 1993. Their veggie gyoza uses a wheat pastry shell filled with 51% vegetables — bamboo shoots, carrots, cabbage and celery — alongside tofu and seasoning in the traditional Japanese gyoza style.
Gyoza are pan-fried and steamed to produce the characteristic crispy bottom and tender top that distinguishes them from other dumplings — the contrast of crunch and chew is what makes them satisfying. Vegan throughout.
Vegan. Contains wheat (gluten) and soya (from tofu). High in vegetables.
How to cook: Heat a little oil in a frying pan, add gyoza flat-side down, fry for 2 minutes until golden. Add a splash of water, cover immediately and steam for 4 minutes. Remove lid, allow remaining water to evaporate, and serve with soy dipping sauce or a gyoza dipping sauce (soy, rice vinegar, sesame oil, chilli).
